Plantex® unique properties and it’s exceptional manufacturing process
1. DuPont™ Plantex® is composed of thermally bonded continuous polypropylene filaments made out of 100% polypropylene, starting with a melting and extruding process.
2. The fiber extrusion process produces several thousands of superfine continuous filaments, which pass through a DuPont patented “pre-stretch” stage. During this period the a special technology of multi-step-conditioning will give the fibres their initial strength.
3. The superfine tough filaments are directionally oriented in a special lay-down technology to produce a strong and uniform fiber web sheet.
4. During this process a thermally and mechanically bonding will be applied to the geotextile.
5. Depending on the application a finishing process will follow before the material will be prepared for shipping.
DuPont™ Patented Process
DuPont™ Plantex® geotextiles are composed of thermally bonded, continuous, polypropylene filaments. During the fiber extrusion process, thousands of tough, superfine continuous filaments pass through a patented “pre-stretch” stage and are directionally oriented into a sheet that is thermally and mechanically bonded. These fine but tough filaments are then laid down (Fig. 1) producing an isotropic fibre web sheet which is then thermally and mechanically bonded. By varying the process conditions, a range of high strength Plantex® nonwoven structures with different denier and physical properties can be produced. This patented production technique is one of the main reasons for the unique properties and uniform quality of DuPont Plantex® compared to other geotextiles.
